Athletic Therapy - Provisional Status

Alberto Pozo is a Provisional Status Athletic Therapist whose approach is shaped by sport, education, and personal experience. Having played rugby at a high level, he experienced firsthand the role rehabilitation can play in helping people recover, rebuild confidence, and return to the activities that matter to them.

While completing his degree in Physical Education, Alberto also spent time caring for his grandmother. That experience strengthened his desire to pursue a profession centred on caring for others. His interest in Athletic Therapy grew through Brandon University’s Student Trainer Program, where hands-on experience supporting athletes led him to pursue his Athletic Therapy education at the University of Winnipeg.

Throughout his training, Alberto gained experience in clinical, community, and high-performance environments, working with athletes in football, rugby, hockey, wrestling, and basketball. A highlight of his career so far has been working with the Winnipeg Sea Bears of the Canadian Elite Basketball League for two seasons, including their CEBL championship season.

Alberto enjoys working with people of all backgrounds and activity levels, not only competitive athletes. He believes meaningful rehabilitation begins with understanding the person behind the injury. By listening to each patient’s story, explaining the rehabilitation process clearly, and helping people better understand their bodies, Alberto aims to make recovery feel more manageable. His goal is for every patient to leave with a clearer understanding of their injury, what they can do, and how they can continue moving toward the activities that are important to them.

Outside the clinic, Alberto is an enthusiastic sports fan, especially when it comes to basketball. He also enjoys movies, music, spending time outdoors, and being with family and friends.
